jho 'ntaH झो ऽन्तः ONPANINI 71003

Replace jh झ् with ant अन्त्.

This affects the jh झ् of affixes. The affixes mentioned in the /pANinIya that have jh झ् are /jhi and /jha.

Examples —

**naya- नयॱ + /jhi
naya- नयॱ + anti अन्ति by this rule
nayanti नयन्ति by atoguNe
→ **nayanti नयन्ति "they lead"

**dviS- द्विष् + /jhi
dviS- द्विष् + anti अन्ति by this rule
→ **dviSanti द्विषन्ति "they hate"

The most common affixes with jh झ् are

/jhi
its replacements /jh''' /jhu'''
/jha
and its replacement /jhe'''.

/jhi becomes /anti''' when it replaces /laT /laG /loT after roots of all verb classes except the /juhotyAdi class (see exception adabhyastAt >). It doesn't matter if the base ends in a or not —

**bhava- भवॱ + /laT /jhibhava- भवॱ + /anti''' by this rule → **bhavanti भवन्ति "they are"

**dviS- द्विष् + /laT /jhidviS- द्विष् + /anti''' by this rule → **dviSanti द्विषन्ति "they hate", by atoguNe

However, /jha is different — it only gets ant अन्त् replacement after a -ender bases —i

labh लभ् + /laT /jha → **labha- लभॱ + /anta''' → **labha- लभॱ + /ante''' → **labhante लभन्ते "they get"

because the exception Atmanepad... >> prevents ant अन्त् elsewhere.
