When a /pada ends in two consonants, erase the last one.
Example. The /kvip nounbase !**yunj- युन्ज् becomes padafinal sometimes —
yunj- युन्ज् + /su
→ yuGg युङ्ग् by other rules
→ **yuG युङ् by this rule
The base /zreyas- ends in an /udit affix —
/zreyas- + /su → zreyAns श्रेयान्स् by other rules → **zreyAn श्रेयान् by this rule
Base /hanumat- is formed with /matup so it is /udit too —
/hanumat- + /su → hanumant हनुमन्त् by other rules → **hanumAn हनुमान् by this rule
As this deletion is /asiddha to the <16 nalopaHprAt... rule, <16 nalopaHprAt... does not trigger and the n न् in zreyAn श्रेयान् and hanumAn हनुमान् stays.
This rule will work with rs र्स् just fine —
pur- पुर् + /su → pUrss पूर्ःस् by rvorupadhAy... → pUrs पूर्स् by halGyAbbhyodIrgh... → pUr पूर् by this rule
but a group of r र् + non-s स् consonants is spared, by the exception rAtsasya > q.v.
