A nounbase is a /pada before (/valAdi) weak affixes.

This is just a way of saying that it gets the same sound changes that a padafinal gets.

Example.

**manas- मनस् (nounbase) + /bhis
→ manas मनस् (/pada) + /bhis by this rule
→ mana मन + /ru + /bhis by sasajuSoruH, because s स् is now padafinal
→ manobhis मनोभिस् by hazica and AdguNaH
→ **manobhis मनोभिस् "with minds"

This rule woul work before all /sup and /taddhita, except the strong. But see the further exception yacibham >.
