The /tanAdi get /u (instead of /zap).
The /tanAdi are the verb class eight.
tan तन् + /laT /tip
→ tan तन् + /zap + /tip
→ tan तन् + /u + /tip
→ tan तन् + o ओ + by gbH
→ !**tanoti तनोति "stretches"
tan तन् + /laT /tas
→ tanu तनु + /tas like above, (but no gbH this time)
→ !**tanutas तनुतस् "they2 stretch"
There are ten /tanAdi roots, nine of which end in n न्. When we add /u after these, the resulting verbbase sounds exactly like a /znu-ender, like **sunoti सुनोति **sunutas सुनुतस्. The /znu bases, and the n-enders नेन्देर्स् with /u, usually take the /tiG endings in exactly the same way. So no need for more examples.
The last /tanAdi root is kR कृ "make, do", which is very special. kR कृ + /u makes either **karo- करोॱ, **kuru- कुरुॱ or **kur- कुर् depending on which /tiG comes next.
**sunvanti सुन्वन्ति has /znu. Why doesnt aciznudhAt... make sunuvanti सुनुवन्ति?
sunoti सुनोति "presses out juice"
sunutaH सुनुतः
sunvanti सुन्वन्ति
The odd one out is the root kR कृ "do, make", which is affected by a few special rules —
**kuru- कुरुॱ + /tip
→ **karoti करोति
**kuru- कुरुॱ + /tas
→ **kurutas कुरुतस्
**kuru- कुरुॱ + /jhi
→ !**kurvanti कुर्वन्ति
kR कृ + /laT
→ kR कृ + /u + /laT
→ kar कर् + /u + /laT
→ kur कुर् + /u + /laT
→ **kuru- कुरुॱ + /laT
