Kids say, but not those that are wise, that Sankhya and Yoga are different things.

note: The sAGkhya and the yoga were two schools of thought in ancient India. They explained the universe in different ways -- basically the sAMkhya were materialists and explained everything from the interaction of atoms which each other. Sort of like modern science, but don't push the analogy too far.

The Lord is not the cause of the capacity for action, or of the actions of men,

na karma- = work

na karma-phala- = fruit, result

na karma-phala-saMyogam = joining

na karma-phala-saMyogaM sva- = (his) own

na karma-phala-saMyogaM sva-bhAvaH = being, true nature, state, condition

na karma-phala-saMyogaM sva-bhAvas tu = but, (ignore), and

na karma-phala-saMyogaM sva-bhAvas tu pravartate = rolls, goes onward (as a carriage's wheel)

or of the connection of actions and (their) fruit. It is nature that engages (in action).

By ignorance, knowledge is shrouded. It is for this that creatures are deluded.

But of whomsoever that ignorance hath been destroyed by knowledge of self,

teSAm Adityavaj jJAnaM prakAzayati tatparam en fr

teSAm Adityavaj jJAnaM prakAzayati tatparam en fr

teSAm = of them, among them

teSAm Adityavat = like the Sun

teSAm Adityavaj jJAnam = knowledge

teSAm Adityavaj jJAnaM prakAzayati = illuminates, shines on it, makes it visible

teSAm Adityavaj jJAnaM prakAzayati tatparam = focused on

that knowledge (which is) like the Sun discloseth the Supreme Being.
