The mighty Brahma (meaning prakRti) is a womb for me. Therein I place the (living) germ.

saMbhavaH sarva-bhUtAnAM tato bhavati bhArata

saMbhavaH = arising, creation, origin; coexistence, room, capacity

saMbhavaH sarva- = all (when @pl); each, every, the whole of, all of it (when @sg)

saMbhavaH sarva-bhUtAnAm = creatures; ghosts

saMbhavaH sarva-bhUtAnAM tataH = and then; from it; and from there; then; from then on

saMbhavaH sarva-bhUtAnAM tato bhavati = is, becomes, there is

saMbhavaH sarva-bhUtAnAM tato bhavati bhArata = hey descendant of bharata

from there, O Bharata, the birth of all beings taketh place.

Whatever (bodily) forms, O son of Kunti, are born in all wombs,

tAsAM brahma mahad yonir ahaM bIjapradaH pitA

tAsAM brahma mahad yonir ahaM bIja-pradaH pitA

sattvaM rajas tama iti guNAH prakRti- = Matter, Nature, material world

tatra sattvaM nirmala- = spotless; very beautiful; white, clean

tatra sattvaM nirmala-tvAt prakAzakam anAmayam = health, lack of illness

sukhasaGgena badhnAti jJAnasaGgena cAnagha

sukha-saGgena badhnAti jJAna-saGgena c' .Anagha

sukha- = happiness, ease, pleasure, comfort

sukha-saGgena = attachment

sukha-saGgena badhnAti = binds

sukha-saGgena badhnAti jJAna- = knowledge

sukha-saGgena badhnAti jJAna-saGgena = attachment

sukha-saGgena badhnAti jJAna-saGgena ca = and

sukha-saGgena badhnAti jJAna-saGgena c' anagha = sinless

Amongst these, Goodness, from its unsullied nature, being enlightening and free from misery, bindeth (the soul), O sinless one, with by attachment to happiness and knowledge.

rajo rAg'-AtmakaM viddhi tRSNA-saGga-samudbhavam

rajaH = rajas; dust

rajo rAga- = liking, pleasure, addiction

rajo rAg'-Atmakam = whose essence is, that essentially is

rajo rAg'-AtmakaM viddhi = you should know (I tell you)

rajo rAg'-AtmakaM viddhi tRSNA- = thirst

rajo rAg'-AtmakaM viddhi tRSNA-saGga- = touching, attachment

rajo rAg'-AtmakaM viddhi tRSNA-saGga-samudbhavam = arising, creation, origin

tan nibadhnAti kaunteya karmasaGgena dehinam

tan@ nibadhnAti kaunteya karma-saGgena dehinam

tat = that, he, them, she, it; and then, so, therefore

tan@ nibadhnAti = binds

tan@ nibadhnAti kaunteya = pn (of the three sons of kuntI)

tan@ nibadhnAti kaunteya karma- = work

tan@ nibadhnAti kaunteya karma-saGgena = attachment

tan@ nibadhnAti kaunteya karma-saGgena dehinam = soul

Know that passion, having desire for its essence, is born of thirst and attachment. That, O son of Kunti, bindeth the embodied (soul) by attachment to work.

pramAdAlasyanidrAbhis tan nibadhnAti bhArata

pramAda- = madness, carelessness, mistake

pramAd'-Alasya- = idleness

pramAd'-Alasya-nidrAbhiH = sleep

pramAd'-Alasya-nidrAbhis tat = that, he, them, she, it; and then, so, therefore

pramAd'-Alasya-nidrAbhis tan@ nibadhnAti = binds

pramAd'-Alasya-nidrAbhis tan@ nibadhnAti bhArata = hey descendant of bharata

Darkness, however, know, is born of ignorance, (and) bewilders all embodied [soul]. That bindeth, O Bharata, by error, indolence, and sleep.
