'Of renunciation, O thou of mighty arms, I desire to know the true nature,

kAmyAnAm = done from desire of benefit or from interested motives

kAmyAnAM karmaNAm = work

kAmyAnAM karmaNAM nyAsam = (@m) laying aside, resigning

kAmyAnAM karmaNAM nyAsaM saMnyAsam = renunciation

kAmyAnAM karmaNAM nyAsaM saMnyAsaM kavayaH = poets, bards, sages

kAmyAnAM karmaNAM nyAsaM saMnyAsaM kavayo viduH = they know

'The rejection of the works with desire is known by the learned as renunciation.

sarvakarmaphalatyAgaM prAhus tyAgaM vicakSaNAH en fr

sarva-karma-phala-tyAgaM prAhus tyAgaM vicakSaNAH en fr

sarva- = all (when @pl); each, every, the whole of, all of it (when @sg)

The abandonment of the fruit of all work, the discerning call abandonment.

Some wise men say that work (itself) should be abandoned as evil;

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na tyAjyam iti c' .Apare en fr

yajJa- = rite (sacrifice)

yajJa-dAna- = giving, charity, gift

yajJa-dAna-tapaH- = penance, asceticism, austerity

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma = work

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na = no, not, doesn't

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na tyAjyam = should be discarded

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na tyAjyam iti = (close quote); saying, thinking

others (say) that the works of sacrifice, gifts, and penance, should not be abandoned.

nizcayaM zRNu me tatra tyAge = throwing away, discarding

nizcayaM zRNu me tatra tyAge bharata- = pn

nizcayaM zRNu me tatra tyAge bharata-sattama = best (of, @latter)

As to that abandonment, listen to my decision, O best of the sons of Bharata,

tyAgo hi puruSa-vyAghra tri-vidhaH saMprakIrtitaH en fr

tyAgaH = throwing away, discarding

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na tyAjyam = should be discarded

yajJa-dAna-tapaH-karma na tyAjyaM kAryam = task; (that) should be done

The works of sacrifice, gifts, and penance should not be abandoned. They should, indeed, be done.

yajJaH = rite (sacrifice)

Sacrifice, gift, and penance, are the purifications of the wise.

niyatasya = prescribed, compulsory

niyatasya tu saMnyAsaH = renunciation

niyatasya tu saMnyAsaH karmaNaH = work

niyatasya tu saMnyAsaH karmaNo na = no, not, doesn't

niyatasya tu saMnyAsaH karmaNo n' upapadyate = befits

The renunciation of an act prescribed (in the scriptures) is not proper.

mohAt tasya parityAgas tAmasaH parikIrtitaH en fr

mohAt = foolishness, bewilderment, perplexity, confusion, distraction

mohAt tasya = his, its

mohAt tasya parityAgaH = throwing away, discarding

mohAt tasya parityAgas tAmasaH parikIrtitaH = called, mentioned, it is said to be

Its abandonment (is) from delusion, (and) is (therefore,) declared to be of the quality of darkness.

(Regarding it) as (a source of) sorrow, when work is abandoned from (fear of) bodily pain,

kAryam ity eva yat karma niyatam = steady, invariable, firm, observant, prescribed, regular, customary

(Regarding it) as one that should be done, when 2 work that is prescribed (in the scriptures) is done, O Arjuna,

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva sa tyAgaH sAttviko mataH en fr

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva sa tyAgaH sAttviko mataH en fr

saGgam = attachment, going together

saGgaM tyaktvA = throw away and

saGgaM tyaktvA phalam = fruit, result

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva = and (ca + eva)

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva sa = that one, he, it (only used before consonant); with (when @former)

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva sa tyAgaH = throwing away, discarding

saGgaM tyaktvA phalaM caiva sa tyAgaH sAttvikaH = sattwic

abandoning attachment and fruit also, that abandonment is deemed to be of the quality of goodness.

He hath no aversion for an unpleasant action and no attachment to pleasant (ones),

tyAgI sattva-samAviSTo medhAvI chinna-saMzayaH en fr

tyAgI = thrower away, discarder, abandoner

tyAgI sattva- = creature; pn (one of the three guNas) ; vital energy, might; mental strength, the Force

tyAgI sattva-samAviSTaH = was entered, occupied, possessed

tyAgI sattva-samAviSTo medhAvI = intelligent, wise, smart

tyAgI sattva-samAviSTo medhAvI chinna- = cut off

an abandoner possessed of intelligence and with doubts dispelled, that is endowed with the quality of goodness .

for the completion of all actions, declared in the Sankhya treating of the annihilation of actions.

(They are) substratum, agent, the diverse kinds of organs,

vividhAH = diverse, of several kinds

vividhAz ca = and

vividhAz ca pRthak-ceSTA$ daivam = destiny; related to the gods

Whatever work a man undertakes with body, speech, or mind,

nyAyyaM vA viparItaM vA paJc' .aite tasya hetavaH en fr

nyAyyam = strategy

nyAyyaM vA = or; maybe

nyAyyaM vA viparItam = opposite, contrary, adverse

nyAyyaM vA viparItaM vA = or; maybe

nyAyyaM vA viparItaM vA paJc' ete = these
