There are various kinds of expedients inferrable from the scriptures.
teSAM yuddhaM tu pApiSThaM vedayanti purAvidaH
teSAM yuddhaM tu pApiSThaM vedayanti purA-vidaH
teSAm = of them, among them
teSAM yuddham = fight, battle, war
teSAM yuddhaM tu = but, (ignore), and
teSAM yuddhaM tu pApiSThaM vedayanti = they indicate
teSAM yuddhaM tu pApiSThaM vedayanti purA- = anciently
teSAM yuddhaM tu pApiSThaM vedayanti purA-vidaH = knower (@latter)
Of these, a battle hath been regarded by those acquainted with the past, as the most sinful.

deza-kAlena saMyuktaM yuddhaM vijaya-daM bhavet
deza- = place, country
deza-kAlena = time
deza-kAlena saMyuktam = soot
deza-kAlena saMyuktaM yuddham = fight, battle, war
deza-kAlena saMyuktaM yuddhaM vijaya- = victory
deza-kAlena saMyuktaM yuddhaM vijaya-dam = giver (@latter)
deza-kAlena saMyuktaM yuddhaM vijaya-daM bhavet = would be, may be, should be
It is only when time and place are favourable that military operations can lead to success.

AnukUlyena kAryANAm = thing to be done, duty
AnukUlyena kAryANAm antaram = among, in between, the middle of; the inside of; another one
AnukUlyena kAryANAm antaraM saMvidhIyatAm = let it be arranged
It is by the favourableness or otherwise (of time and place) that the opportuneness of an act is determined.
bhAraM hi rathakArasya na vyavasyanti paNDitAH
bhAraM hi ratha-kArasya na vyavasyanti paNDitAH
bhAram = load, burden
bhAraM hi = because; (@ignore)
bhAraM hi ratha- = chariot
