These tables have two uses.

1. When beginners need to figure out the sound change when joining azvAs अश्वास् + icchanti इच्छन्ति, the table below allows them to figure out that As आस् + i इ makes A::i आ‌इ, without having to know the /pANini rules.
2. When the advanced student knows that some rules turn As आस् + i इ into A::i आ‌इ or n न् + j ज् into Jj ञ्ज्, but forgot the name of the rules, the links in the table should lead to them.

Important tip for beginners: you should learn first to apply the most common sound changes by doing exercises and drills and using the tables here, without worrying about the /pANini rules. Rules are not useful for learning to do the sound changes. Do not memorize rule atororapl... until after you know that as अस् plus a अ always makes o ओ. Do not memorize "as अस् plus a अ always makes o ओ" until after you memorize an example sentence like **azvotra अश्वोत्र.
