deriv LSK ETT STT aSTA ALPH OLDHOMEPAGE NEWHOMEPAGE
When chanting, the custom is making a full pause at mid-verse. This is a zloka stanza, made of two lines of 16 vowels each, as usually chanted —
gururbrahmAgururviSNuH |
गुरुर्ब्रह्मागुरुर्विष्णुः ।
gururdevomahezvaraH |
गुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः ।
gurussAkSAtparabrahma |
गुरुःसाक्षात्परब्रह्म ।
tasmaizrIguravenamaH |
तस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः ।
Again because of custom, the uH उः at midverse or endline is chanted as uHU उःऊ, the aH अः as aHA अःआ. and the a अ as A आ.
ISO these customs, verse lines are usually spelled as if there were no pause in the middle —
gururbrahmAgururviSNurgururdevomahezvaraH |
गुरुर्ब्रह्मागुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः ।
gurussAkSAtparabrahmatasmaizrIguravenamaH ||
गुरुःसाक्षात्परब्रह्मतस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः ॥
That sort of spelling has been used for centuries. Yet, it is stupid. See the stupid spelling of stanzas.
