The letter /M has the position indicated in the above table only when it is before y य् r र् l ल् v व् z श् S ष् s स् h ह्. Elsewhere it is sorted alphabetically as if it were the /savarNa made by anusvArasy....
Similarly, the letter /H has the position indicated in the above table only when it is not followed by a /zar. Otherwise it is sorted as if it were the /zar made by vAzari.

Only if you are the kind of newbie that mispronounces sandhi संधि as "sammdhi" and duSSantaH दुःषन्तः as "duHuSantaHa". Most speakers say "sandhi" and "duSSantaH" correctly. This rule makes things easier for them, because they can find "sandhi" the first time they look it up, even if they forgot if it is spelled with nd or with Md. After all, people who already know the good spelling do not need to look the word up in a dictionary.
