The /apAdAna /kAraka (a.k.a. departure) is the word meaning the fixed point one goes away from.

An /apAdAna takes fifth ending by apAdAnep.... So we say —

parvatAd avarohati पर्वतादवरोहति "goes down from the mountain"

rathAt patitaH रथात्पतितः "fallen from his chariot"

The 'point' does not have to be an actual place, it can be used also figuratively:

hInas svArthAt हीनः स्वार्थात् "deprived from his purpose", "frustrated"
