/iN / इण्

The /iN are all vowels except a A , plus h ह् y य् v व् r र् l ल्.

Quoting the /zivasUtra

a i uN | अ इ उण्।
R Lk | ऋ ऌक्।
e oG | ए ओङ्।
ai auc | ऐ औच्।
ha ya va raT | ह य व रट्।
laN | लण्।

According to rule Adirantyen..., this "/iN" might also mean the set i I u U . Why didn't you mention that?

Because the student doesn't need to know. I checked every single place where pAnini पानिनि uses /iN. Even though Adirantyen... allows it to mean i I u U , it never means that anywhere.

Which BTW is odd, because at sUtra aciznudhAt... he might have profitably used such an iNaH इणः instead of yvoH य्वोः, and at eca::igghrasv... he might have used iN इण् instead of /ik. I guess he had good reasons to not do so.

See Kiparsky's paper on pANini's razor if you are interested.
