Add fourth to the object of a deleted verb that expresses the purpose of another action.
This is an exception to the general principle "one may erase any word which is understood from context without any changes to the other words".
Example. In the sentence
edhAn AhartuG gacchAmi एधानाहर्तुं गच्छामि "I'm going to fetch firewood"
The word edhAn एधान् carries second because it is the object of Ahartum आहर्तुम्, and Ahartum आहर्तुम् carries /tumun because it expreses the PURPOSE of the action **gacchAmi गच्छामि. Erasing edhAn एधान् directly is fine —
Do we have any firewood? AhartuG gacchAmi आहर्तुं गच्छामि "I'm going to fetch some"
and erasing gacchAmi गच्छामि is fine —
Where are you going? edhAn Ahartum एधानाहर्तुम् "To fetch firewood"
However, when you erase Ahartum आहर्तुम्, which is the purpose of gacchAmi गच्छामि, the object of Ahartim आहर्तिम् must change its ending to fourth —
edhebhyo gachhAmi एधेभ्यो गछ्हामि "I'm going for firewood"
