An /upasarga is a /prAdi joined by sense to a verb.
In the /laukika these are always stuck in front of verbs, by rule kugatiprAd... —
sRjati सृजति "poors forth, throws out"
pra प्र + sRjati सृजति → !**prasRjati प्रसृजति "stretches out, scatters"
yujyate युज्यते "joins"
sam सम् + yujyate युज्यते → !**saMyujyate संयुज्यते "joins together"
IkSate ईक्षते "looks"
vi वि + Iksate ईक्सते → vIkSate वीक्षते "looks around, commands a view of"
and of course when the verb turns into a noun, they stay in front:
/sam + yuj युज् + /ghaJ → saMyoga- संयोगॱ "union"
The /prAdi may appear detached from the verb in the /veda. So we can hear there —
pra bAhU asrAk प्र बाहू अस्राक् "out arms he stretched"
which in the /laukika would be —
bAhU prAsRjat बाहू प्रासृजत् "arms he outstretched"
