Rule vAzari taches that when the words **gurus गुरुस् and sAkSAt साक्षात् come together, you are allowed to pronounce them in two ways. Either as —

gurussAkSAt, with a lengthened s स् sound

or as

guruHsAkSAt, with a hiss sound before a normal, nonlengthened s स्.

However, according to current usage, you should never pronounce hiss + s स् — only ss is allowed.

Also, confusingly, the spelling s s is not allowed. You must always write ss even though it WILL be pronounced as ss.
