(There is) no (lengthening) of whimpy (ir इर् ur उर् iv इव् uv उव्) before y य्. Nor of **kur- कुर् chur छुर् before any consonant.

Exception to << halica.

Example with whimpy dhur- धुर्

dhuryaH धुर्यः (dhuraM vahati धुरं वहति by dhuroyaDDhak...)
Example with **kur- कुर्

**kuryAt कुर्यात् "he would make"

**kurmas कुर्मस् "we make"

Why do we say whimpy?

Rule << halica won't lengthen divyati दिव्यति and caturyati चतुर्यति, formed from nouns diva दिव catura चतुर plus a *verbmaking* affix. Verbmaking affixes are /taddhita, so they can make their base whimpy.

But /zyan is a verb affix, not a /taddhita, so its stem is not whimpy, and there can be << halica lengthening in

**dIvyati दीव्यति "gambles, plays dice"
