Rule nazchavyapraz... allows you to say either —
**hanumAMstiSThati हनुमांस्तिष्ठति
or
hanumA~stiSThati हनुमाँस्तिष्ठति.
Yet, it is always spelled **hanumAMstiSThati हनुमांस्तिष्ठति. Either by laziness or by lack of a /candrabindu movable type.
Wait, I thought that AM आं and A~ आँ are just different ways of spelling the same sound. I read somewhere that an M ं written above a vowel shows that the vowel is nasalized, like those French vowels, is that not right?
I read that in some Western gramars too, but it is not right.
Sound AM आं is an A आ followed by a hum. Sound A~ आँ is an A आ with simultaneous noseleak.
The A~ आँ sound is more often that not misprinted as AM आं by laziness or by lack of a /candrabindu movable type.
