deriv LSK ETT STT aSTA ALPH OLDHOMEPAGE NEWHOMEPAGE
A Sanskrit relative construction like —
yo na dveSti sa me priyaH यो न द्वेष्ति स मे प्रियः "whoever does not hate, I like him" (TITS, "I like people who don't hate")
is technically made up of two sentences. The first one —
yo na dveSti यो न द्वेष्ति "who does not hate"
is called the /yad-sentence because it has /yad (here in the form /yad + /su → **yas यस्). And the second half
sa me priyaH स मे प्रियः "I like him"
is called the /tad-sentence because it has /tad (here in the form /tad + /su → **sas सस्).
