/vid / विद्

The /adAdi root /vid, aka /vetti, makes a regular present vetti वेत्ति

vid विद् + /laT /tip!**vetti वेत्ति

Irregularly, its /liT tense does not reduplicate, and may optionally mean present time —

vid विद् + /liT /tip!**veda वेद "I know" / "he knows" / "I knew" / "he knew"

vid विद् + /liT /jhi!**vidus विदुस् "they know" / "they knew"

This veda वेद is a cognate to Ancient Greek "oida", allegedly derived from PIE *weida "I saw", which is the source of latin "video". These veda वेद and "oida" are past in form because they anciently meant "I have realized" — if you have realized something, you now know it.

The /vasu-form of /vid is **vidvas- विद्वस् (made by videzzaturv...). Alone among /vasu-enders, it is commonly used, particularly in the meaning of "one who knows", "expert, skilled, learned, sage, scholar". The feminine is **viduSI- विदुषीॱ.
