deriv LSK ETT STT aSTA ALPH OLDHOMEPAGE NEWHOMEPAGE
/Gyossup is the seventh line in the svaujasamauTch... list, and it is made of three endings —
/Gi (singular) "in"
/os (dual) "in"
/sup' (plural) "in"
These three affixes mean "in", "at", "on" because of rule saptamyadhik....
Sometimes /sup' translates as "among" —
mRgeSu siMho balI मृगेषु सिंहो बली "among beasts, lion is strongest"
(In that sense, saying **mRgANAm मृगाणाम् is more common.)
Sometimes they translate as "about". They are invariably used to express the object of feelings —
biDAleSu snehaH बिडालेषु स्नेहः "affection for cats"
But not feelings of fear, whose object takes fifth —
vRkebhyo bhayam वृकेभ्यो भयम् "fear from wolves"
where **vRka- वृकॱ got /bhyas, from the fifth group /GasibhyAmbhyas, q.v.
