The plural means three or more.
So we must use a plural /sup after nounbases that mean three or more —
azva- अश्वॱ + /jas → **azvAs अश्वास् "three or more horses"
**pazyAmi पश्यामि + **azvAn अश्वान् → pazyAmy azvAn पश्याम्यश्वान् "I see 3+ horses"
and a plural /tiG after verb roots that linkto three or more —
dru द्रु + /laT → dru द्रु + /jhi → **dravanti द्रवन्ति
**dravanti द्रवन्ति + **azvAs अश्वास् → dravanty azvAH द्रवन्त्यश्वाः "3+ horses are running"
My English grammar book says that "horses" is a plural. How dare you say that I am not allowed to use a plural ending in Sanskrit when I mean two horses?
Because your English grammar book has no authority over Sanskrit. /pANini says "use dual when meaning two". See dvyekayordviv... >.
