Replace dual /yuSmad- /asmad- that have sixth fourth second with /vAm'' /nau''.
There are exactly six examples —
/yuSmad- + sixth /os → /vAm'' "of you two"
/yuSmad- + fourth /bhyAm → /vAm'' "to you two"
/yuSmad- + second /au → /vAm'' "you two"
/asmad- + sixth /os → /nau'' "of us two"
/asmad- + fourth /bhyAm → /nau'' "to us two"
/asmad- + second /au → /nau'' "us two"
So instead of second case **AvAm आवाम् here —
avatv AvAM saha अवत्वावां सह "may he protect us together"
we can also say /nau'' —
saha nAv avatu सह नाववतु
There is no such option in the first third fifth seventh. So no /nau'' is allowed in the seventh —
Ayayos sneham आययोः स्नेहम् "affection towards us two"
while the sixth has two options —
Ayayor azvau आययोरश्वौ "our horses"
azvau nau अश्वौ नौ "our horses"
The original sUtra does not say "dual".
No. It does not need to say so, because of the exceptions bahuvacan... > and temayAvek... >>.
