03097002c sa saMskRtena kauravya bhrAtrA vAtApinA kila O son of the kuru race, with well dressed meat supplied by his brother vAtApi (transformed into a ram).
03097003a tato rAjarSayasH sarve viSaNNA gatacetasaH Then all those royal sages became sad and cheerless and were nearly deprived of themselves,
03097003c vAtApiM saMskRtanM dRSTvA meSabhUtamM mahAsuram beholding the mighty asuravAtApi, who had been transformed into a ram thus cooked for them.
03097004a athAbravId agastyas tAn rAjarSIn RSisattamaH But that best of RSis, agastya, addressing those royal sages, said,
03097004c viSAdo vo na kartavyo ahamM bhokSye mahAsuram 'Yield ye not to grief, I will eat up the great asura.'
03097007a tato vAyuH prAdurabhUd agastyasya mahAtmanaH And after the dinner was over, ilvala began to summon his brother. But thereupon a quantity of air alone came out of the illustrious RSi's stomach, with a sound that was as loud, O child, as the roar of the clouds. And ilvala repeatedly said, 'Come out, O vAtApi!' Then that best of Munis--Agastya--bursting out in laughter, said, 'How can he come out? I have already digested that great asura.'

03097008a prAJjaliz ca sahAmAtyair idaM vacanam abravIt and joining his hands, along with his ministers, addressing the RSi (and his companions), said,
03097008c kimartham upayAtAsH stha brUta kiGM karavANi vaH 'What for have ye come hither, and what can I do for you?'
03097009a pratyuvAca tato 'gastyaH prahasann ilvalaM tadA And Agastya smilingly answered ilvala, saying,
03097009c IzaM hy asura vidmas tvAM vayaM sarve dhanezvaram 'We know thee, O asura, to be possessed of great power and also enormous wealth.
03097010a ime ca nAtidhanino dhanArthaz ca mahAn mama These kings are not very wealthy while my need also of wealth is great.
03097010c yathAzakty avihiMsyAnyAn saMvibhAgamM prayaccha naH Give us what thou canst, without injuring others.'
03097011a tato 'bhivAdya tam RSim ilvalo vAkyam abravIt Thus addressed ilvala saluted the RSi and said,
03097011c ditsitaM yadi vetsi tvanM tato dAsyAmi te vasu 'If you know what wealth I just thought of giving, then I will give it to you.'
03097012 agastya uvAca Hearing this Agastya said,
03097012a gavAnM daza sahasrANi rAjJAm ekaikazo 'sura 'O great asura, thou hast even purposed to give unto each of these kings ten thousand kine
03097012c tAvad eva suvarNasya ditsitanM te mahAsura and as many gold coins.
03097013a mahyanM tato vai dviguNaM rathaz caiva hiraNmayaH And unto me twice as much, as also a car of gold
03097013c manojavau vAjinau ca ditsitanM te mahAsura and a couple of horses fleet as thought thou hast purposed to give.
03097013e jijJAsyatAM rathasH sadyo vyaktam eSa hiraNmayaH If thou enquirest now, thou wilt soon learn that your car is made of gold.'
03097014 lomaza uvAca lomaza said
03097014a jijJAsyamAnasH sa rathaH kaunteyAsId dhiraNmayaH Thereupon, O son of kuntI, ilvala made enquiries and learnt that the car he had intended to give away was really a golden one.
03097014c tataH pravyathito daityo dadAv abhyadhikaM vasu And the daitya then with a sad heart, gave away much wealth
03097015a vivAjaz ca suvAjaz ca tasmin yuktau rathe hayau and that car, and two steeds called vivAja and suvAja yoked to it.
03097015c Uhatus tau vasUny Azu tAny agastyAzramamM prati And those steeds transported that wealth to the asylum of agastya
03097015e sarvAn rAjJasH sahAgastyAn nimeSAd iva bhArata all the kings and agastya within the twinkling of an eye, O bharata.
03097016a agastyenAbhyanujJAtA jagmU rAjarSayas tadA And those royal sages then obtaining Agastya's permission, went away to their respective cities.
03097016c kRtavAMz ca munisH sarvaM lopAmudrAcikIrSitam And Agastya also (with that wealth) did all that his wife Lopamudra had desired.
03097017 lopAmudrovAca And Lopamudra then said,
03097017a kRtavAn asi tat sarvamM bhagavan mama kAGkSitam 'O illustrious one, thou hast now accomplished all my wishes.
03097017c utpAdaya sakRn mahyam apatyaM vIryavattaram Beget thou a child on me that shall be possessed of great energy.'
03097018 agastya uvAca And Agastya replied unto her, saying,
03097018a tuSTo 'ham asmi kalyANi tava vRttena zobhane 'O blessed and beauteous one, I have been much gratified with thy conduct.
03097018c vicAraNAm apatye tu tava vakSyAmi tAM zRNu Listen thou unto me as regards the proposal I make in respect of thy offspring.
03097019a sahasranM te 'stu putrANAM zataM vA dazasamMmitam Wouldst thou have a thousand sons, or a century of sons each equal to ten,
03097019c daza vA zatatulyAsH syur eko vApi sahasravat or ten sons equal each to an hundred, or only one son who may vanquish a thousand?'
03097020 lopAmudrovAca Lopamudra answered,
03097020a sahasrasamMmitaH putra eko me 'stu tapodhana 'Let me have one son equal unto a thousand, O thou endued with wealth of asceticism!
03097020c eko hi bahubhizH zreyAn vidvAn sAdhur asAdhubhiH One good and learned son is preferable to many evil ones.''

03097021a sa tatheti pratijJAya tayA samabhavan muniH 'Then that devout Muni said 'okay' and joined his devout wife
03097021c samaye samazIlinyA zraddhAvAJ zraddadhAnayA of equal behaviour at the right time.
03097022a tata AdhAya garbhanM tam agamad vanam eva saH And after she had conceived, he retired into the forest.

03097025c lebhire pitaraz cAsya lokAn rAjan yathepsitAn 'And it was thus, O bharata, that Agastya begat an excellent son in consequence of which his ancestors, O king, obtained the regions they desired.
