05027002d zreyo manye na tu yuddhena rAjyam
than obtain sovereignty by war.

05027003a alpakAlaJM jIvitaM yan manuSye
Since this mortal existence is for only a short period,

05027003b mahAsrAvanM nityaduHkhaM calaM ca
and greatly liable to blame, subject to constant suffering, and unstable,

05027003c bhUyaz ca tad vayaso nAnurUpam
and since it is never comparable to a good name,

05027003d tasmAt pApamM pANDava mA prasArSIH
therefore, O pANDava, never perpetrate a sin.

05027004a kAmA manuSyamM prasajanta eva
It is the desires, O ruler of men, which adhere to mortal men

05027004b dharmasya ye vighnamUlanM narendra
and are an obstruction to a virtuous life.

05027004c pUrvanM naras tAn dhRtimAn vinighnan
Therefore, a wise man should beforehand kill them all

05027004d loke prazaMsAM labhate 'navadyAm
and thereby gain a stainless fame in the world, O son of pRthA.
