You do not need to use it for anything, but you need to know that it exists.
The work lists about 2000 verb roots, starting with the root bhU . They are divided in ten groups, called verb classes or gaNa s
The roots are listed with labelletters that show, for instance, if they are /seT or /aniT, if they get flat or bent, and other data necessary for the sUtras to work. There is also an extremely short explanation of their general meaning.
