(There is no /iT) after one-vowel roots that are marked with an /anudAtta accent in the /dhAtupATha.
Exception in advance to ArdhadhAtuk..., that adds /iT to /valAdi softs.
One such root is nI नी, which is sung at /dhAtupATha 1.1049, NIJ णीञ् prApaNe प्रापणे, with low accent on the I ई. So /kta gets no /it in —
nI नी + /kta → **nIta- नीतॱ "led"
The other roots are called /seT roots.
How can I quickly test if a root has an /anudAtta accent in the /dhAtupATha?
You cannot test that easily, sorry.
So you use the rule-of-thumb instead —
most vowel-ender roots are /aniT,
most consonant-enders are /seT,
and whenever this recipe fails, check the lists of exceptions.
See Consonant-ending aniT roots.
