@names of the liG

In the /pANinIya, the affix /liG is a tense, which is usually hard but can be made soft by liGAziSi.

Later grammarians, however, prefer to consider that the hard liG is a tense affix that is always hard, and the soft liG is another tense affix that is always soft. Thsi is convenient when setting up conjugation tables.

So the ordinary (hard) /liG affix, the one that has not been affected by liGAziSi, is called —

hard liG by /pANini,
/vidhiliG ("command /liG") by later grammarians,
or optative by Westerners.

And the rare (soft) /liG affix made by liGAziSi, is called —

soft liG by /pANini,
/AzIrliG ("blessing /liG") by later grammarians,
precative or benedictive by Westerners.
