A tense is an affix that, when added to a root, makes a verb.

There are ten tenses. One present tense:

and four irreal tenses:

8. /lRG conditional

10. /leT subjunctive (vedic use only)
The /liG is a single affix in the /pANinIya, but for later grammarians it is considered to be two tenses, the /vidhiliG and the /AzIrliG.
