Use a first ending when meaning only existence, only gender, only measure or only number.

I'm not sure about this sUtra, sorry. I sort of guess that it means —

A nounbase must take a first ending unless some sUtra says otherwise.

Example:

In the sentence

rAmo vAnaram pazyati रामो वानरं पश्यति "Raama sees monkey"

the nounbase vAnara- वानरॱ gets second ending because of karmaNidvit.... But the nounbase rAma- रामॱ does not take first because any sUtra says anything like "doers take first when..." Rather, it gets first because no sUtra teaches that it shuld take anything else.

There are three first edings, /su /au and /jas. How do I know which one I should use?
