deriv L 53 ETT STT aSTA ALPH OLDHOMEPAGE NEWHOMEPAGE
In some compounds the first half loses its /Ti.
/vArttika to acontyAdiTi.
This is an exception to akassavarN..., AdguNaH, and other rules.
The original of the /vArttika says "the /zakandhu-class", but that class is just an /AkRtigaNa. So this rule is just an excuse to explain away forms like zakandhu- शकन्धुॱ (name of a herb) as compounds (zakan- शकन् + andhu- अन्धुॱ, "dungwell"). Or manISA- मनीषाॱ ("intellect") as manas- मनस् + ISA- ईषाॱ ("mindyoke", ruler of thoughts).
