The /Ti is the last vowel plus whatever consonants are after it, if any.
Examples —
The /Ti of **manas' मनस्ऽ is as अस्.
The /Ti of **nAma नाम is a अ.
When rule Tita::Atman... replaces the /Ti of /dhvam with e ए, we get /dhve'''.
When bhasyaTerlop... replaces the /Ti of **pathin- पथिन् with /lopa, we get path- पथ्.
Doesn't /lopa usually erase just one letter? How do you know that the whole in इन् of **pathin- पथिन् has to be erased instead of just the n न्? What sUtra teaches that?
No sUtra teaches that. It is just common sense — if bhasyaTerlop... were to delete only the last letter, the Ter टेर् word in it would be useless.
