(See also endings after masculine an bases.)
The nounbase nAman- नामन् "name" is an example of neuter base that ends in an अन्.
It works mostly like rAjan- राजन् m , see endings after masculine an bases. The differences happen only in the first and second endings —
* In the sambuddhi सम्बुद्धि, the n न् optionally drops, by some /vArttika to naGisambuddhy... —
he nAman हे नामन् / he nAma हे नाम "hey name" (poets are allowed to address absolutely anything)
* Neuters are strong only before /zi, so there is An आन् only before /zi —
**nAmAni नामानि " s o names"
* /su /am are dropped by svamornapuMs..., then nalopaHprAt... shaves off the n न् —
nAman- नामन् n + /su OR /am
→ nAman नामन् by svamornapuMs...
→ nAma नाम by nalopaHprAt...
→ !**nAma नाम " s o name"
* /au becomes /zI by napuMsakAcca of course, but the a अ of an अन् is optionally lost by vibhASAGizyoH —
**nAmanI नामनी / **nAmnI नाम्नी "two names"
Like in the masculine, there is optional loss of a अ also before /Gi.
Therefore, masculine base **brahman- ब्रह्मन् plus /su makes brahmA ब्रह्मा (the guy with the four beards), but neuter **brahman'- ब्रह्मन्ऽॱ plus /su makes brahma ब्रह्म (the paramAtman परमात्मन्). Be careful!
