(Lengthen the nexttolast of a n न्-stem) before a strong that is not the /sambuddhi.
The n -stems are
Examples with mn n -enders before strong —
**rAjan- m + /jas
→ !**rAjAnas " s kings"
nAman- n + /jas OR /zas
→ nAman- + /zi by jazzasozziH
→ nAmAn- + /zi by this rule
→ !**nAmAni " s o names"
Examples with neuter vowel nounbases before strong /zi —
phala- n + /zi → **phalAni "fruits"
**dadhi- n + /jas OR /zas
→ dadhi + /zi
→ dadhin + /zi by napuMsakasy...
→ dadhIn + i by this rule
→ !**dadhIni "kinds of curds"
**madhu- + /zi → !**madhUni "kinds of honey", same steps
Why do we say "but not before /sambuddhi"?
When the /su is the /sambuddhi /su, there is no lengthening —
**rAjan- + /sambuddhi → **rAjan' , dropping s by halGyAbbhyodIrgh...
**yogin- + /sambuddhi → **yogin'
Why is there no nalopaHprAt... in **rAjan' **yogin' ?
Because of naGisambuddhy....
Why "before strong"?
Of course there will be no lengthening before weak. In addition to that, (an in )-enders will lose n by nalopaHprAt... when /pada —
and, when whimpy, an -enders will lose their a by alloponaH —
**rAjan- + /zas OR /Gasi OR /Gas
→ **rAjJas
All of your examples are mn — aren't there any f nounbases ending in n ?
With extremely rare exceptions not worth mentioning, the n -ending nounbases, when feminine, get /GI by RnnebhyoGIp — **rAjJI- , **yoginI- . So they work like **nadI- .
Kindly mention one of the not-worth-mentioning, please.
One would be **dAman- f "rope", allowed by manaH.
AFAIK, that **dAman- f appears only in grammar books as an example of manaH. When you mean "rope", please say rajju- f , pAza- m , or dAman- n instead.
