06006003a paJcemAni mahArAja mahAbhUtAni saGMgrahAt --'O great king, all things in the universe, in consequence of the presence (in them) of the five elements,
06006003c jagat sthitAni sarvANi samAny Ahur manISiNaH have been said to be equal by the wise.
06006004a bhUmir Apas tathA vAyur agnir AkAzam eva ca These elements, are space, air, fire, water, and earth.
06006004c guNottarANi sarvANi teSAmM bhUmiH pradhAnataH Every one of these elements possesses (in addition to what is especially its own) the attribute or attributes of that or those coming before it.
06006005a zabdasH sparzaz ca rUpaJM ca raso gandhaz ca paJcamaH Their (respective) attributes are sound, touch, vision, taste, and scent.
06006005c bhUmer ete guNAH proktA RSibhis tattvavedibhiH The earth, therefore, is the foremost of them all, possessing as it does the attributes of all the other four, besides what is specially its own, as said by RSis acquainted with truth.
06006006a catvAro 'psu guNA rAjan gandhas tatra na vidyate There are four attributes, O king, in water. Scent does not exist in it.
06006006c zabdasH sparzaz ca rUpaJM ca tejaso 'tha guNAs trayaH Fire has three attributes viz., sound, touch, and vision.
06006006e zabdasH sparzaz ca vAyos tu AkAze zabda eva ca Sound and touch belong to air, while space has sound alone.
06006007a ete paJca guNA rAjan mahAbhUteSu paJcasu These five attributes, O king, exist (in this way) in the five principal elements
06006007c vartante sarvalokeSu yeSu lokAH pratiSThitAH depending on which all creatures in the universe exist.
06006008a anyonyanM nAbhivartante sAmyamM bhavati vai yadA They exist separately and independently when there is homogeneity in the universe.
06006008c yadA tu viSamIbhAvam Avizanti parasparam When, however, these do not exist in their natural state but with one another,
06006008e tadA dehair dehavanto vyatirohanti nAnyathA then creatures spring into life, furnished with bodies. This is never otherwise.
06006009a AnupUrvyAd vinazyanti jAyante cAnupUrvazaH The elements are destroyed, in the order of the one succeeding, merging into the one that preceeds; and they spring also into existence, one arising from the one before it.
06006009c sarvANy aparimeyAni tad eSAM rUpam aizvaram All of these are immeasurable, their forms being brahmA itself.
06006010a tatra tatra hi dRzyante dhAtavaH pAJcabhautikAH In the universe are seen creatures consisting of the five elements.
06006010c teSAmM manuSyAs tarkeNa pramANAni pracakSate Men endeavour to ascertain their proportions by exercising their reason.
06006011a acintyAH khalu ye bhAvA na tAMs tarkeNa sAdhayet Those matters, however, that are inconceivable, should never be sought to be solved by reason.
06006011c prakRtibhyaH paraM yat tu tad acintyasya lakSaNam That which is above (human) nature is an indication of the inconceivable.
06006012a sudarzanamM pravakSyAmi dvIpanM te kurunandana ''O son of kuru's race, I will, however, describe to thee the island called Sudarsana.
