06036003a mama yonir mahad brahma tasmin garbhanM dadhAmy aham The mighty brahmA (meaning prakRti) is a womb for me. Therein I place the (living) germ.

06036004a sarvayoniSu kaunteya mUrtayasH samMbhavanti yAH Whatever (bodily) forms, O son of kuntI, are born in all wombs,
06036004c tAsAmM brahma mahad yonir ahamM bIjapradaH pitA of them brahmA is the mighty womb, (and) I the seed-imparting Sire.
06036005a sattvaM rajas tama iti guNAH prakRtisaMbhavAH 1 Goodness, passion, darkness, these qualities, born of nature,
06036005c nibadhnanti mahAbAho dehe dehinam avyayam bind down, O thou of mighty arms, the eternal embodied [soul] in the body.
06036006a tatra sattvanM nirmalatvAt prakAzakam anAmayam
06036006c sukhasaGgena badhnAti jJAnasaGgena cAnagha Amongst these, Goodness, from its unsullied nature, being enlightening and free from misery, bindeth (the soul), O sinless one, with by attachment to happiness and knowledge.
06036007c tan nibadhnAti kaunteya karmasaGgena dehinam Know that passion, having desire for its essence, is born of thirst and attachment. That, O son of kuntI, bindeth the embodied (soul) by attachment to work.
06036008a tamas tv ajJAnajaM viddhi mohanaM sarvadehinAm
06036008c pramAdAlasyanidrAbhis tan nibadhnAti bhArata Darkness, however, know, is born of ignorance, (and) bewilders all embodied [soul]. That bindeth, O bharata, by error, indolence, and sleep.
06036009c jJAnam AvRtya tu tamaH pramAde saMjayaty uta Goodness uniteth (the soul) with pleasure; Passion, O bharata, uniteth with work; but darkness, veiling knowledge, uniteth with error.
06036010a rajas tamaz cAbhibhUya sattvamM bhavati bhArata
06036010c rajasH sattvanM tamaz caiva tamasH sattvaM rajas tathA Passion and darkness, being repressed, Goodness remaineth, O bharata. Passion and goodness (being repressed), darkness (remaineth); (and) darkness and goodness (being repressed), passion (remaineth).
06036011a sarvadvAreSu dehe 'smin prakAza upajAyate When in this body, in all its gates, the light of knowledge is produced,
06036011c jJAnaM yadA tadA vidyAd vivRddhaM sattvam ity uta then should one know that goodness hath been developed there.
06036012a lobhaH pravRttir ArambhaH karmaNAm azamaH spRhA Avarice, activity, performance of works, want of tranquillity, desire,
06036012c rajasy etAni jAyante vivRddhe bharatarSabha --these, O bull of bharata's race, are born when passion is developed.
06036013a aprakAzo 'pravRttiz ca pramAdo moha eva ca Gloom, inactivity, error, and delusion also,
