/thal / थल्

By parasmaipad..., the affix "thal" must replace the /sip that replaced /liT. It is a /pit affix because it replaces /sip (see sthAnivadAd...). Therefore sUtra asaMyogAll... does not make it /kit. That's why it causes gbS.

(It has nothing to do with /thAl, a /vibhakti.)

The /lit in "thal" is for accent.

When you hear a reduplicated verb that ends in /tha, it may be a /juhotyAdi with /laT "you3", like

hu हु + /laT /tha → !**juhutha जुहुथ "you''' are pouring",

or any root with /liT "you'", like —

hu हु + /liT /sip → !**juhotha जुहोथ "you' poured".
