juhoty-Adibhyaz zluH

जुहोत्यादिभ्यः श्लुः ONPANINI 24075

After the /juhotyAdi roots, add /zlu (instead of /zap).

The /juhotyAdi are the verb class three. Some /juhotyAdi roots: hu हु "sacrifice", dA दा "give", dhA धा "put", hA हा "abandon, quit, lose".

The /zlu is added in the same circumstances /zap would be added, that is, before a doershowing hard (mostly before /laT /laG /loT and hard liG).

Some juhotyadi verbbases —

**juhu- जुहुॱ

**bibhI- बिभीॱ

The ending /jhi after these roots is replaced with /ati''' not /anti'''

hu हु + /laT /tip → **juhoti जुहोति "sacrifices (said of the priest)"

You say that /zlu is added instead of /zap, but candravasu says that first /zap is added, and afterwards /zap is replaced with /zlu. Who is right?

We both are right. Idea is we add zlu श्लु to these when a /bhvAdi would get /zap. We just talk about it differently. Old saying goes, ekam sad viprA bahudhA vadanti एकम्सद्विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति.

What's that mean?

Try googling.
