A verbbase is whatever a /tiG is added to.
All verbs are made by joining a root and a tense. The tense is always replaced with a /tiG. As in —
ad अद् + /laT → ad अद् + /mip → **admi अद्मि
In most cases the root gets thingies added to it —
pac पच् + /laT → **paca- पचॱ + /mip → **pacAmi पचामि
pac पच् + /laG → **apaca- अपचॱ + /mip → **apacam अपचम्
And also in many cases the /tiG gets thingies added, removed or replaced—
bhU भू + /liG → **bhava- भवॱ + /mip → **bhava- भवॱ + am अम् → **bhava- भवॱ + **iyam इयम् → **bhaveyam भवेयम्
pac पच् + /loT → **paca- पचॱ + /sip → **paca पच
So all verbs are made from a left half (modified root), and a right half (modified tense or modified /tiG). Sometimes it is convenient to call the left half a "verb base".
In these pages I try to add a hyphen after verb bases —
**bhava- भवॱ + /liG /mip
