When meaning /yuvan, replace /aN'' and /iJ with /luk after /Nya, kSatriya क्षत्रियs, and RSi ऋषिs which are /Jit.
By sUtra kurvAdibhyoNy..., we add /Nya after kuru कुरु to mean a grandson:
kuru कुरु + /Nya + /su → **kauravyas कौरव्यस् "grandson of kuru कुरु"
This is a /gotra word.
Now, usually, the descendants of a /gotra, while the gotra गोत्र is alive, would get a /yuvan affix by jIvatituv..., maybe /iJ by ata::iJ. But this rule erases the /iJ in the case of /Nya words like kauravyaH कौरव्यः, so both the grandson and his son are called kauravyaH कौरव्यः even when the grandson is alive.
Similarly, the /gotra descendants of zvaphalkaH श्वफल्कः add aN3 अण्३, and are called zvApalkaH श्वापल्कः. The yuvan युवन् should have /iJ. But by this sUtra, the /iJ is deleted and the /yuvan is zvApalkaH श्वापल्कः too.
Similarly in the case of vasiSTha वसिष्ठ the RSi ऋषि, his descendants from grandson down are each a vAsiSThaH वासिष्ठः.
