Replace /yuSmad- /asmad- (with A आ before a consonant /sup) that is not a replacement.
/yuSmad- + /bhyAm
→ yuva युव + /bhyAm by yuvAvaudviv... 6>
→ yuvA युवा + /bhyAm by this rule
→ **yuvAbhyAm युवाभ्याम्
/yuSmad- + /bhis
→ yuSma युष्म + A आ + /bhis by this rule
→ yuSmA युष्मा + /bhis by akassavarN...
→ !**yuSmAbhiH युष्माभिः
!**yuSmAsu युष्मासु, same steps
!**asmAbhiH अस्माभिः
Why do we say "a consonant /sup"?
Before a vowel /sup, there is no lenghtening —
/yuSmad- + /TA → tva त्व + /TA → **tvayA त्वया
/asmad- + /Gas → **mama मम
/yuSmad- + /Gi → tva त्व + /Gi → **tvayi त्वयि
/asmad- + /Gi → **mayi मयि
Why do we say "that is not a replacement" ?
Rule bhyasobhyam, replaces /bhis with abhyam अभ्यम्. So, no lengthening —
The substitute case-endings of /yuSmad- and /asmad- are:
a अ from yuSmadasmadbhy...
**mama मम
/am from Geprathamay...
n न् from zasona
**asmAn अस्मान्, **yuSmAn युष्मान्
abhyam अभ्यम् from bhyasobhyam
**asmabhyam अस्मभ्यम्, **yuSmabhyam युष्मभ्यम्
Akam आकम् from sAma::Akam
**asmAkam अस्माकम्, **yuSmAkam युष्माकम्
and at अत् from paJcamyA::at
**mat मत्
But **mAm माम्, **tvAm त्वाम्, **asmAn अस्मान् and **yuSmAn युष्मान् are lengthened anyway.
Sure they do, but by prathamayoHp... or by amipUrvaH, not by this sUtra.
