12218010c kAlas tu zakra paryAyAn mainaM zakrAvamanyathAH It is Time that moves me from one place to another. Do not, O zakra, disregard vAlin.'

12218011a kathanM tvayA balis tyaktaH kimarthaM vA zikhaNDini 'For what reason, O goddess adorned with plumes, do you desert vAlin?
12218011c kathaJM ca mAnM na jahyAs tvanM tan me brUhi zucismite Why also do you approach me (for living in me)? Tell me this, O thou of sweet smiles!'

12218027a ye vai santo manuSyeSu brahmaNyAsH satyavAdinaH 'They that are good among men, devoted to brAhmaNas, and truthful in speech,
12218027c te te pAdanM titikSantAm alaM santas titikSitum may bear thy fourth quarter. The good have the power to bear it.'

12218028a eSa me nihitaH pAdo yo 'yaM satsu pratiSThitaH 'Here I yield up my fourth quarter that is to be placed among the good.
12218028c evaM vinihitAM zakra bhUteSu paridhatsva mAm My portions thus assigned to different creatures, do thou continue to protect me, O zakra.'

12218029a bhUtAnAm iha vai yas tvA mayA vinihitAM satIm That one of the creatures, among which I havedistributed you,
12218029c upahanyAt sa me dviSyAt tathA zRNvantu me vacaH that would hurt you, I will hate him. Let them hear my word.

12218030a tatas tyaktazH zriyA rAjA daityAnAmM balir abravIt The chief of the daityas, viz., vAlin, thus deserted by Sree, then said these words -- 'bali said,
12218030c yAvat purastAt pratapet tAvad vai dakSiNAnM dizam 'At present the Sun shines as much in the east as in the south,
12218031a pazcimAnM tAvad evApi tathodIcInM divAkaraH and as much in the west as in the north.
12218031c tathA madhyanMdine sUryo astam eti yadA tadA When, however, the Sun, withdrawing himself from all sides, will shine only upon the region of brahma situated in the middle of sumeru,
12218031e punar devAsuraM yuddhamM bhAvi jetAsmi vas tadA then will again occur a great battle between the gods and the asuras, and in that fight I shall certainly vanquish all of you.

12218035a sthApito hy asya samayaH pUrvam eva svayaMbhuvA The Self-born (brahma) hath before this ordained the laws that regulate the Sun's motions.
12218035c ajasramM pariyAty eSa satyenAvatapan prajAH Giving light and heat to all creatures, he goes on ceaselessly.
12218036a ayananM tasya SaNmAsA uttaranM dakSiNanM tathA For six months he travels in a northward course and then for the other six in a southward course.
12218036c yena saMyAti lokeSu zItoSNe visRjan raviH The sun travels by these courses (one after another), creating winter and summer for all creatures.'
