After (/ik plus) consonant, an /aniT /san is /kit.
So /san is /kit after viz विश् here, and that debars gbS —
/ni + viz विश् + /san + /laT /ta → !**nivivikSate निविविक्षते "he wants to go in"
Why do we bother to say "/ik"? Even if you don't say that, gbS won't affect the non-/ik.
But that was just an example. Non-guNation is not the only effect of kitness. See —
/yaj + /san + /laT /ta
→ !**yiyakSate यियक्षते "wants to sacrifice"
here, as /yaj is /ik-less, halantAcca हलन्ताच्च did not make /san into ksan क्सन्. And that's why rule grahijyAvay... did not trigger.
