(In the grammar lists,) a final consonant (is a labelletter).
By "grammar lists" we mean the /zivasUtra, the list svaujasamauTch..., the list tiptasjhisipth..., and the /dhAtupATha.
Example. The letters N ण् k क् G ङ्... in the /zivasUtra list a अ i इ uN उण् R ऋ Lk ऌक् e ए oG ओङ्... are labelletters. They are atached to the true letters only to show us how to decypher a /pratyAhAra.
And in the list of affixes svaujasamauTch..., the p प् in the last affix /sup' is a labelletter.
Ah, I see. So, the p प् in the /tip /sip /mip from list tiptasjhisipth... are labelletters too, yes?
Yes.
And, the s स् m म् in /jas /am /zas are labelletters too, yes?
Good thinking. They should be, according to this rule — but actually they are not, because of navibhaktaut... >.
Are the many a अ in the /zivasUtra "ha ह ya य raT रट् laN लण् jha झ bhaJ भञ्..." labelletters too?
Yes, they are. The a अ in "a अ i इ uN उण्" is not, however.
If they are, why doesn't ashtadhyayidotcom call them /it?
They have their own good reasons to do that. As for me, I apply the duck principle, and if they disappear, they are labelletters.
