Grammarians classify Sanskrit words in these groups:
Some are nouns, some are verbs, and some are indeclinables.
nouns are made by joining a nounbase and a /sup.
verbs are made by joining a root and a tense.
Some nounbases, like dRSTa- दृष्टॱ, come from adding a /kRt to a root.
Some nounbases, like dAzarathi- दाशरथिॱ, come from adding a /taddhita to a noun.
Some nounbases, like azva- अश्वॱ, don't come from anything else.
Roots cannot be used as nounbases without adding some /kRt to them. If they look affixless, like the spRz स्पृश् root inside divi-spRk दिविॱस्पृक् "skytoucher", that means a /kRt (such as /kvin) was added to the root, and lost all letters.
