The affixes described next are /kRt, except the /tiG.
A /kRt affix is whatever can be added directly to a root.
The /kRt affixes make nounbases usually. As for instance, we can add the /kRt affix /kta directly after pac पच् —
pac पच् + /kta → **pakva- पक्वॱ "cooked"
and we get the nounbase pakva- पक्वॱ. Then we must add a /sup to turn it into a noun —
**pakva- पक्वॱ + /su → !**pakvas पक्वस्
The exceptions to that are the tenses. The tenses themselves, like /laT, are /kRt affixes because we add them directly after roots —
pac पच् + /laT →
and being /kRt affixes allows rule kartarikRt to teach that they usually show the doer.
However, by lasya, the tense has to turn into a /tiG, for instance /tip, and that /tip is no longer a /kRt because of the word atiG अतिङ् in this rule. But it still shows the doer. So we get —
→ pac पच् + /tip → **pacati पचति
Were it not for this rule, the /tiG would be /kRt by sthAnivadAd..., and then by kRttaddhitas... all verbs would be nounbases and all hell would break loose.
