Showig all the rules that are needed to make a verb is often cumbersome —
nI नी + /laT
→ nI नी + /zap + /laT by kartarizap
→ nI नी + /zap + /tip by lasya ff
→ ne ने + a अ + /tip by gbS
→ naya नय + /tip by ecoyavAyAvaH
→ **nayati नयति
To make things easier, I will often show first the rules that work the same way before all /tiG, like this —
nI नी + /laT
→ nI नी + /zap + /laT by kartarizap
→ ne ने + a अ + /laT by gbS
→ **naya- नयॱ + /laT by ecoyavAyAvaH
And afterwards I will add the /tiG to that **naya- नयॱ —
**naya- नयॱ + /tip → **nayati नयति
**naya- नयॱ + /mip → **nayAmi नयामि
**naya- नयॱ + /jhi → **nayanti नयन्ति
The **naya- नयॱ thing is called a verb stem. A verb stem is whatever a /tiG is added to.
This verb stem term is not always useful. The form **bhUyAt भूयात् according to /pANini does not come from adding /tip to a bhUyA stem. Rather, first we turn the affix /tip into an affix yAtip यातिप्, then we add it after root bhU भू.
