So we say —
rud रुद् + /laT /tip

→ rod रोद् + /tip by gbH
→ rod रोद् + iti इति by this rule
→ !**roditi रोदिति "cries", "wails"
svap स्वप् + /laT /tip
→ svap स्वप् + /tip by adiprabhRt...
→ svap स्वप् + iti इति by this rule
→ !**svapiti स्वपिति "sleeps"
!**zvasiti श्वसिति "breathes"
!**prANiti प्राणिति "breathes"
!**jakSiti जक्षिति "eats"
Why "hard"?
svap स्वप् + /tRc
→ !**svaptR- स्वप्तृॱ "sleeper"
Why "/valAdi"?
rud रुद् + /laT /jhi
→ rud रुद् + /anti'''
→ !**rudanti रुदन्ति "they weep"
The original sUtra says "after rud रुद् and so on". How did you figure out that the "so on" are svap स्वप् svas स्वस् prAN प्राण् jakS जक्ष्?
Find a /dhAtupATha, then look for rudh रुध्, which is in the /adAdi section, entry 58, then grab 59, 60, 61, and 62.
Why stop there? Why not 63 jAgR जागृ?
See, don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Lest your head should fall off. Just remember this —
jAgR जागृ + /laT /tip → !**jAgarti जागर्ति "is awake"
