Replace the d द् (of /idam- with m म् before /sup).
This rule turns /idam- "this" into **ima- इमॱ —
/idam- mn
→ ida- इदॱ + a- अॱ by <7 tyadAdInAmaH
→ ida- इदॱ by atoguNe
→ !**ima- इमॱ by this rule
/idam- f
→ **ima- इमॱ like above
→ ima- इमॱ + /TAp by ajAdyataSTAp
→ !**imA- इमाॱ f
Because of exceptions, there are only seven examples of this rule —
"this" —
/idam- f + /am → !**imAm इमाम्
"these two" —
/idam- f + /au → **ime इमे, with auGa::ApaH
/idam- n + /au → **ime इमे, with jasazzI
"these" —
/idam- m + /zas → !**imAn इमान्
/idam- f + /jas OR /zas → !**imAs इमास्
/idam- n + /jas OR /zas !**imAni इमानि
What are those exceptions?
Because we inherit "before a /sup", /idam- stays unchanged in
/idam- n + /su OR /am → **idam इदम्
The other first are —
So far we covered all the first and second endings. For what happens before the other fifteen /sup, see **anena अनेन.
What about the /sambuddhi?
You may not add it after /idam-, or after most pronouns. You cannot address anyone as "hey this guy!".
You mean it's impolite?
No, I mean no one ever does that. If you don't know their name, call them man, woman, boy or girl.
QUSTION What about "hey you" of Pink Floyd fame?
Nothing like that in Sanskrit either.
Won't supodhAtupr... too erase the /sup?
/idam- does not form any compounds.
