When /jhi replaces the hard liG, it usually takes the form **yus युस् like this —
hard liG /jhi
→ /jus by jherjus
→ yAs यास् + us उस् by yAsuTparasm...
→ yA या + us उस् by liGassalop...
→ y य् + us उस् by usyapadAntAt
→ !**yus युस् "they would ..."
As in —
**dviSyus द्विष्युस् "they would hate"
When the verbbases ends in a अ, the a अ combines with the /yus into eyus एयुस्, as in —
**bhava- भवॱ + hard liG /jhi
→ **bhava- भवॱ + **yus युस्
→ **bhava- भवॱ + /iyus'''
→ bhaveyus भवेयुस् by AdguNaH
→ **bhaveyus भवेयुस् "they'd be"
In the soft liG, however, the s स् of /yAsuT stays, so we get —
hard liG /jhi
→ /jus by jherjus
→ yAs यास् + us उस् by yAsuTparasm...
→ !**yAsus यासुस् "may they ..."
And of course the root does not get /zap or any /vikaraNa before a soft, see —
bhU भू + **yAsus यासुस् → **bhUyAsus भूयासुस् "may they be"
dviS द्विष् + **yAsus यासुस् → !**dviSyAsus द्विष्यासुस् "may they hate"
han हन् + **yAsus यासुस् → vadha वध + **yAsus यासुस् → **vadhyAsus वध्यासुस् "may they kill"
Hey, where did the last a अ of vadha वध go?
atolopaH ate it.
